Shoota we all have ‘ colloquially speaking’
I've not heard that expression before.
The "hobs" one, I meant.
Every day is a school day.

I wonder if it’s a northern thing?
I've never heard it either.
Neither have I...
Spanish/American origin in the link, who knows when things travelled over.

We have many sayings that no one has heard of but equally quite a few that others claim are theirs.

Travel is the key.
makes you think about Hobbs Lane in Quatermass innit?

the waves riplets in the gravel with the woo-woo music really scared me - but that was 1962
Hob Def.
"A shelf or projection at the back or side of a fireplace, used for keeping food or utensils warm."

It would be pretty hot there, in hell, then...what with that big fire and all.
I'll let you know when I get there:-)
Togo has the def. My grandmother used to boil her pans on the hob.

I have never heard the expression 'hot' as the hobs of hell, but I have often heard 'Rough as the hobs of hell' i.e 'Rough as a badger's Rse'.
Haha Nearly as hot as that up here Ken. The promenade is rammed and I don't blame em. There is a lovely breeze coming off a full tide so I went down to see whether the Mackerel were in and to cast a spin lure in for half an hour or so. Was told that there are some about but as yet only very small. Millions of fry on the high tide though and Mackerel usually chase them in. Only came home for a cuppa...may go back down there as it is burning hot out the back without the seaside. Pity on all the inland towns and Cities. It is days like this that remind me why I stayed all those years ago.
Doesnt it refer to kitchen hobs.
No, fireplace hobs. Every coal fire had a hob. Used for cooking as it saved on gas.
Togo, I've actually done a (3/4) shift painting a couple of rooms at my brother's house. 3 T-shirts and copious amounts of ice cold water did help - a little. Hope it's not as warm tomorrow. Us sufferers of hyperhidrosis don't take kindly to this heat :-(
