We have tried various things to get rid of the smell after a tumbler of milk was spilt on the lounge carpet, including soap & water, Febreeze & baking soda. .. as the smell hasn't gone can anyone suggest any other remedy.
We always have a can of chemdry stain extinguisher to hand. It’s the only carpet stain removed I’d ever use and takes out stains completely even red wine from a beige carpet.
As it’s so good on stains, I wonder if it would do the job on a residual milk smell? Might be worth a try. John Lewis sell it although you may be able to get it elsewhere too.
A mixture of water and vinegar would work, you would have to spray it on and blot it as it dries. The vinegar smell will soon fade and take the sour milk smell with it. I remember an Aunt of mine doing this years ago!
Pet Odour and Stain Remover should do the trick but the cheapest, and one unlikely to do any harm to your carpet, is that indicated above by two posters.
Half water and white vinegar, sprayed or dabbed on the area, left about an hour, then blotted up with a dry cloth or kitchen paper
Don't rub the carpet when wet because it is likely to disturb the lay of the carpet's pile.
The very best odour eliminator (for all kinds of "natural" smells) is this stuff. Not cheap but very effective,,,specifies "sour milk" in the product description.
