my cousin does not have bank card and prefers to pay in cash for everything.

She is going to become a new granny and so has bought the pram and paraphernalia that goes with it.

She went to pay for it in cash and they wouldn't accept cash.

What went wrong there. PS - her daughter paid for it by card.

Maybe the shop was going overboard with "Please pay by cash(when possible)."

sorry Pasta don't understand your answer, I think it was a big concern - you know Mamas and Papas, they wouldn't take the cash.

they think cash spreads covid

( which they did in 1665 - so coins were dipped in vinegar )
Stops the Covid spread, going cashless. A lot of firms have brought in this policy. Might still be a few places taking cash payments, but not many.
Pasta meant to type "Please pay by CARD(when possible)."
Some seem to be using the current 'crisis' as an excuse not to use cash. Cash is a bit of a pain to retailers - you have to take it to the Bank and pay to deposit it. Also there is the chance of being mugged as happened to one of my mates - teach him to go to the bank in a Porche!!

Dohhh...yes, that's what I meant. Must eat something, brain is empty.

I understand Pasta LOL
yes, quite likely a Covid thing, though whether they will go back to accepting cash when all this over, I sometimes wonder.

imagine shops not accepting like £400-£500 in cash. they're barking mad
I would imagine the cash thing is also to do with having limited staff in the store and trying to arrange the banking of said money
Do people who pop into the shop for a newspaper pay by card?
jj, I must admit I'd just as soon not have to carry £500 in cash if I'm going shopping. I once had to carry thousands in my pocket because I was going to buy a car and he wouldn't take a cheque or a card. I felt very nervous. (But the car was excellent.)
Barsel, I pay for everything by card, the only cash I have is a single pound coin for the supermarket trolley.
The advent of contactless payment means that many more small purchases are now made by card.
That would mean very long bank statements then.
I only ever carry small amounts of cash on me, usually for anything going on at son's school. Other than that I always use cards or order online.
I pay for everything by cash and have no trouble in local shops.
It doesn't spread Covid and is legal tender, for goodness sake. Just shops blaming Covid for their own laziness. I would go elsewhere.

I regret very much in the slum area in which I live

they used to tack on 50p card charge until it became unlawful (" I dont believe it is, " should be on AB )

and now they say no card unless you spend £5.

this is very difficult to cope with for geographical reasons
( screwing their own racial group but what the hell)
