Old Laptops

I have two laptops that did not work very well and I want to dispose of them but Idon.t know how to remove my details etc.
I have been told that the easiest way to remove evething before throwing them way is
to drop them into a water butt.
Can anyone confirmthis please?

A few years ago I needed to dispose of an old laptop. I removed everything from the guts of the machine and smashed them with a hammer and disposed of the bits in different bags over 2 collection periods from the council.

The only thing that records information saved on the laptop is the hard disk drive.

If you remove that and smash it with a hammer (or put a nail through it) that should work.

Dropping the laptop in a water butt is no guarantee that it will not function once dried out.
