The new puppy has chewed the wire of cable telephone. Now it rings once but doesnt allow any speech etc. How easy is it for a DIYer to fix? or alternatively-how expensive for NTL to do?

Has it been chewed between the wall socket and the phone, or between the street and NTL's distribution box?

If you have any other phones, try using them in the socket and see if this fixes it. If this works, and it's only the wire from the wall socket to the phone that's damaged, this might detatch at the phone, and could be replaced.

It's also quite lucky the puppy didn't choose a power cable to chew on.

Its between the street and the socket so not easily fixed.

And yes it IS lucky she didnt have a go at a power cable.Though to be fair I usually make sure everything is out of her reach .I just didnt think about the cable that ran along the skirting board and which was obviously just the thing for a puppy to amuse herself with in prising it out to chew on.

can't answer your Q but i'd suggest coating any dangerous wires with that nailbiting preventer fluid - or similar, he won't want to chew it them.

i know a dog this happened to and her tongue now dangles out of her mouth permanently as it took half her mouth off.

Between the street and the socket isn't expensive cable, it's two-core coaxial. I moved my NTL set-top box from one room to another, and I had to remove & reinstall the cable, although this was only back to the distro box in the basement. I'm not sure how the cable connects at the street end - I think that might be your hardest bit.
normally anything coming into the house belongs to telecom anything inside belongs to you. so you can rewire inside but legally not outside thats telecom it will cost you .can be up to 70 call out .cable not likely to be coax so just renew piece that has been chewed and weather proof with insulation tape

NTL has a clause in our contract (may not be the same for yours) that all maintenance and service will be carried out by them, but their install service is such a shambles that they wouldn't know if you moved the whole house.

Our cable from the street is twin coax, one going to telephone (wires only twisted together by install guy, I fixed this when I moved the box) and one going to the set-top box. It's not a multicore cable.
