Non Binary In Vogue

So a recent post about pronoun usage for non binary folk has me asking....

Do you think it is now a trendy thing to be non binary?

I do.

I’m there that there are a small amount of folk who are GENUINELY non binary but I see it as a popular thing to be atm.

A way to grab attention.


Just like a few years ago it was popular to be gay, then bisexual etc...

Again yes there ARE of course LOTS of genuine homosexual,transsexual, Pansexual etc etc etc but for others it’s just a way to say “look at me”

Yes, like it was the fashion a few years ago to have a child 'on the spectrum' rather than just admit your child was a little **** and you could'nt handle it :-)

Most of the people who make a big deal out of declaring their "non-binaryness" seem to be people who need or want the publicity. Last week there was a cove on a train who objected to an announcement preceded by "Ladies, Gentlemen, Boys & Girls." He/She/Xe/Whatever declared it did not apply to Him/Her/whatever as He/She/Xe/Whatever was none of those things. Why such a declaration was necessary is unknown. Either listen to the announcement or put your fingers in your ears. Nobody else (except LNER - the train operator, who pledged to "educate" the staff member who made the heinous announcement) seemed particularly bothered.

No. Nobody is non-binary, you can only be male or female (even if intersex male or female).
For the same reason, nobody is pansexual. Bisexual, maybe, but there are only two choices.
There does seem to be a trend on "labelling" and stereotyping, which we have spent centuries trying to get past.
And neither does it seem to work for the victims themselves. I suspect it's a brief experiment, but in 50 years we will look back, and be quite horrified about how we treated these people.

Actually, I agree, and it's harmful for people who are genuinely struggling with their gender identity.

I don't believe there is even "gender identity". That can only ever be a set of stereotypes. Body dysmorphia is rare, but real- but irrelevant to most of these threads.

There are some people who do it for attention yes... and there are some people who do it because it is how they feel... who cares?
