Cleaner Aeroplane Propulsion.

We have heard a lot in recent years of the move away from harmful greenhouse gases. Vehicles on the roads are going greener but we do not hear much about any alternatives to the fuel guzzling planes in the world. Are there any aeroplane alternative fuels or engines out there ?.

Even modern passenger jets are about 25% more fuel efficient than 15 years ago. That is a really lot less fuel being used and is significantly less emissions.

Nothing remotely being anywhere near ready for commercial use so we shall have to carry on using the conventional jet engine some time yet. The environmentalists will have to get over it.

One interesting project underway (well seeking more money I believe) is to make transport fuels from taking out CO2 from the air and then reacting it with H2 to start to create organic carbon compounds and these then provide the building blocks for things like diesel or aviation fuel.....thus we make a shift from fossil to syn fuels, the latter being carbon neutral in a short time horizon.
