what is that nearest equivalent to in childrens sizes?

An adult size 8 is roughly 32-24-36, where those sizes are in inches, for bust, waist and hip respectively.

An adult size 6 is roughly 32-22-34.

Children's sizes, where only chest and waist measurements are included, are roughly as follows:
Age 10: 31½ - 28½
Age 12: 33½ - 30½
Age 14: 35½ - 32½
Age 16: 37½ - 34½
However, if one is trying to work out whether a petite adult can get into children's clothing, their height (and subsequently the length of the clothes) would also need to be taken into account.

Agree with Buen, approx age 13 years, approx height 158 cm/5 feet 2 inches.

I’ve got a petite 13 year old and she can wear some XS stuff but it varies massively between brands. Be prepared for lots of disappointment and returning of parcels.

I would think once they have 'developed' otherwise the waist will be baggy or the chest tight. Why do you want your child to get into adult clothes? There is no vat on childrens stuff.

It all depends on the child! Grand daughter is 14 her riding clothes are woman's xs which is between 4 and 6 but some children's 13 to 14 yrs are too big. In cm she is 164. It is trial and error as sizes of one make are different to another. Eg H and M are average Next run large. Can't win unless you try on

i dont want her to at all. she is a peculiar shape, very tall, developing boobs (at nine!) and with a pot belly she's never lost from a baby. I saw a bundle of second hand size 8 clothes for sale on FB and wondered. I can never get children's clothes to fit her.

it does depend on the brand and style though. i find H+M small, M+S big peacocks just right

nah, just need some ordinary stuff. shes only had online hit and miss stuff for the last 18 months and i wanted to do a shop with her now we can too.

It is going to be a case of look and try on. Don't know where you live but a good shopping centre, plenty of time and patience and have a mummy and daughter day out. We used to book a Premier Inn room at Westfield Stratford buy and go to the room to try on and then take back and start again. More relaxing than trying on in shops

My wife tells me that the sizes Beunchico has quoted as a size 8 was a size 12 in 70s.

Bednobs: To the best of my knowledge, no clothes retailers are currently allowing customers to try on items in the shop, due to Covid concerns. You have to buy what you think might fit, take it home, try it on and then return it if it doesn't.
