morning all, its an early start, so not expecting many to be around as yet, but can't get back to sleep so here we are. Have stuff to do later on, waiting in for post / couriers too, plus washing and various chores, all can be done early of course.
I hope you have as good a day as possible, and that the sun shines brightly for you.
i wake early now that i could join Mamy's thread i reckon. im on my second coffee, and no it doesn't keep me awake, and now can face the day which will be busy... i am hoping to go round to my local later weather permitting, yesterday was ok but started to rain later on in the afternoon.
I'm just naturally nocturnal, Emmie. Give me a choice of working a day shift or a night shift and I'd choose a night shift every time. When Boaty was around at this time of the morning, we'd often overlap, with him saying 'Good morning' and me saying 'Good night' around the same time.
I'm off to bed fairly soon though. I'll probably have another coffee (decaff) and then head upstairs to see if I can squeeze into bed alongside the cats.
The cats always come first, Emmie. I've slept on the floor before now, rather than disturb a sleeping cat ;-)
I'm still trying to work out whether to go to bed or wait until the fish man arrives down the road. He's only here on Friday mornings, from 0630 until he sells out (which is usually around 0930 to 1000). His fish is gorgeous (and reasonably priced too) but his trading hours don't fit in at all well with my sleep patterns!

i have only ever had one cat and he died many years ago, i wouldn't get another because i am up four flights of stairs and my knees won't take going up and down them several times a day to let puss cat in or out. i wouldn't want a home bound animal either, i don't think its fair on them not to go and roam around a bit.
There are some cats in rescue shelters though that need 'indoor only' homes because they've never been outside in their lives and it would be far too risky (due to road traffic, etc) to let them explore outside now.
If you could rehome such a cat, it would be an act of kindness, through re-introducing it to the type of environment it's used to.
i have too much easy furniture to scratch to pieces, a chesterfield sofa and chair that have a very scratchable material to claw, so i still wouldn't have another cat Chris.
i wonder what the weather is going to be like today, i would like to get out if possible later on this afternoon, to have a wander for an hour or so, something i don't do often enough, i actually went to Oxford Street the other day, haven't done that in a long while -
You can leave a cat for two or three nights but, I agree, a week is too long if you've not got someone to look after it.
I'm wary of asking anyone else to look after my cats anyway. About 25 years ago, I asked the guy who lived across the road from me (who was also a drinking pal) to feed my cats when I went away with friends for a few days at Christmas. I gave him the spare key to my front door on Christmas Eve and told him that he didn't need to feed the cat until the following day. When I returned a few days later though, I found one very hungry cat and exactly the same number of full cans of cat food as I'd left a few days before. I later found out that my neighbour had been found dead in his armchair on Christmas Day!
Morning all, a grey one to report down here, not raining yet but close I think - and, just looked, due plus it's to be sullen through to lunch and then brighten up for this afternoon. Got some fair event on here this weekend, the details of which i do not know.
With regard to the weather, I've forgotten which part of the country you're in, Emmie (although your reference to Oxford Street suggests that you're not far from London).
