What Happens With The Serps Payments?

I remember that about 30 years ago, I signed to, (I think), opt out of SERPS. On a recent DWP letter, notifying me of the annual increase to my state pension it stated the new weekly amount and underneath a new amount minus SERPS.
Can anyone tell me what happens, (happened), to the money deducted for SERPS?
