Council Tax Rates On New Build Houses In Fife,Scotland
10 Answers
Has anyone bought a new build house in Fife Scotland (value between £220000 and £240000) in the past year? What council tax are you paying monthly?. My daughter and her husband are considering buying a new build house at £230000 but on checking the council rate bands it would seem to be over £100 per week. £400 per month. Is this correct? Thank you in advance

Looking at Wolf63's link (and only considering actual Council Tax, not adding in water charges) shows that the very highest Council Tax payment in Fife on, say, a massive mansion would only be £261.50 per month when spread out over 12 months (or £313.80 if it's spread out over just 10 months). I think you need to check your sums!
As Ryzen has indicated, the Council Tax band for the property is calculated by the assessors pretending that it existed in 1991 and estimating its open market value at that time. What it actually sells for this year is completely irrelevant.
The average house price in Scotland in 1990 was £35,684. (Source: https:/ /espc.c om/news /post/h ow-scot tish-ho use-pri ces-hav e-chang ed-in-t he-past -50-yea rs ). So a new build 'average' house will be placed in, or around, Band C for Council Tax purposes, not in Band H.
