Shortcuts On The Desktop
18 Answers
I have shortcuts on the desktop which I sort into type and then alphabetically.
Yesterday when I turned on my computer, the shortcut icons were all over the place and I painstakingly put them back in order.
Today the same thing had happened again and I don't know why.
As far as I know, I haven't changed any settings, so I don't know why this has happened.
Any ideas please? TIA

It's never happened before, the icons have always stayed where I place them, but for some strange reason they have become all mixed up and spread out all over the desktop 2 days in a row.
I've arranged them back again and will just have to hope that I can find out how to keep them in that order before I switch off my computer tonight.
If they are all mixed up again tomorrow, I might just have to open the window and throw the pesky thing out!

I'm probably repeating What GG has posted.

'If your icons go back to where they were previously, then do this. Go into Settings - Personalization's - Themes- Desktop Icons Settings. If the box is checked " Allow themes to change desktop icons ", uncheck, hit apply. Hope this helps.'

//I found the thing that says 'Allow themes to change desktop icons' and I've unchecked it, apply and Ok, so hopefully that might do the trick.//
You may find that you have to do it again after another update or patch. I has always been the case with all operating systems. Some settings will go back go back to the providers default.
