Spectacles

I'm due an eye test soon - usually go to Specsavers - just wondering can you get spectacles to fit your face as the ones I am wearing (about 3 years old) just don't fit.

I recall asking if I could get them fitted but the receptionist said one fits all. Is that correct or would I be better going to an independent optician.

I've found with Specsavers that they do go out of their way to help. They have been lovely with me. Just go and ask them. If they can't do exactly the same they will find the nearest ones.

Spectacle frames come in different sizes and Specsavers usually have a good range so I have no idea why you were told that.
The measurements include arm length so the glasses sit comfortably on your ears and don't slide off or protrude too far behind your ears; lens width; bridge with so that your nose isn't pinched and your glasses stay put; lens height so the glasses don't cover your eyebrows or sit on your cheeks.

The frames have the sizes stamped on the arms. My wife's have 52 16 135, telling me that the lens diameter is 52mm; the bridge width is 16mm and the arm length is 135mm

right ok - thanks for that - perhaps the assistant was too lethargic that day and couldn't have cared less so just said - right one fits all.

I was stupid in taking that as my goodness there are bigger faces than mine knocking about. Will enquire next time.

JJ, maybe she meant that the frames you chose only came in one size.

I always thought that if the glasses you chose weren't a perfect fit, then the opticians would adjust them so they did. That is what Boots (where I get my glasses from) do.

Excellent answer by barry highlighting how an eye test SHOULD be done............but is not.

they should have dozens of shapes and sizes on display - just try them till you find one that fits, and that you like, and they should be able to make the lenses fit it. They can usually adjust the arms too

I get my spectacles via Specsavers home visiting team and when they bring my new ones,following an eye test, they always ensure that they fit properly adjusting them if necessary.
