On my 4th driving lesson today I couldn't get the driving right like 2 metres from another car and my instructor said have a chat with my parents and see if driving is for me because he don't want to do it lesson after lesson which is fair enough. I am on medication and he said it may affect my short term memory

I thought you were in your late 20s/early 30s. Why would he tell you to talk to your parents?
Ditch him and try another driving instructor - after you've got medical advice about driving with the medication you are taking

Abbey, maybe while waiting to speak to your doctor you could post in Body and Soul for advice/information on the medication you are taking. Sqad or others might help.

I hope your not taking it due to seizures. Memory problems is not a known side effect

If it is Lamotrigine which is prescribed for epilepsy (for one thing), maybe you should not be driving!

It seems odd that your instructor is suggesting you give up after only four lessons. It sounds to me that he is only interested in teaching somebody who, he thinks, will pass the test first time, implying that he is an excellent instructor. Find another who will boost your confidence, not one who wants to bolster his own ego.

Some side effects are double vision, blurred vision and lack of co=ordination. Are you saying you were driving too close to another car. Maybe a visit for an eye test might be advisable.

abbey - Some people are simply not meant to drive cars.

For a variety of reasons, the mental faculties needed to absorb the processes are not in place, and cannot be put in place.

That means that, for a small minority, driving is simply not for them.

An experienced instructor will know within a few lessons if a pupil is going to be able to learn to Test level, or not, and should advise accordingly.

This may be what your instructor is saying to you - I don't know that, obviously, but if I were you, I would ask him for his reasons for his observation.

If what I have outlined is his reason, then you can either accept what he says, or try with another instructor and see what happens.

It's equally true that some instructors and pupils do not gel at all.

I had two lessons bought for my seventeenth birthday with a driving school, and I disliked the instructor from the first moment we met.

I abandoned him, my dad taught me, and I passed first time.

So clearly this needs a little investigation.

It's no use asking your parents if they think you should continue, they don't know, and can't know if you are suitable as a pupil.

Have a chat with your instructor, and you can proceed from there based on what he tells you.

Yes they are for seizures but that was 2 years ago I had my last seizure you can drive after a year of being seizure free.

I had another instructor before I moved to an area he doesn't cover so jad to get another and i said to him yesterday I was test ready with him but because of the covid situation I didn't get there and had to move on to this one.

I did the manovre 4 times yesterday and drive round the loop which is first time around that area.

It appears that you are much further on in your learning than your mention of 'four lessons' inferred.

I again suggest you speak to your instructor about his reasons for suggesting you are not a suitable pupil.

It does appear that youo are simply not suitable for him, which is not the same thing, and should look elsewhere.

I agree with your driving instructor in that you should not be driving whilst on that medication and indeed it can effect the memory.
