Zoom Meetings

I have received an email from a long distance friend suggesting that we, and other distant friends, have a catch up natter on Zoom. Old college friends scattered around the country.

I have no idea how to set up a Zoom 'thing'. Can someone tell me how it works please.

What do you intend to use, Tilly? Pc, laptop, tablet, iPad?

I think you need to download the zoom app. The person organising the meeting will email everyone a link to click on to join at the agreed time.

Find zoom online and install on the laptop. I think if you don’t you have the option of installing it when you click on the link to join the meeting. It installs very quickly.

You need to download the Zoom app to your device. You will need camera and microphone so if on desktop pc you may need to purchase those, most laptops have inbuilt cameras as do smartphones.

There is a good guide to getting started with Zoom on their pages on the link.
If someone else sets up the meeting you will get an email and you just need to click on the link when the meeting starts. You might want to test your camera and mic are working beforehand.

Well that seems easy enough, Toorak. Can you download an app onto a laptop?

I use my phone for Apps, not my laptop.

I believe that when you click on the link sent for the meeting, you are given the option to download the Zoom client software if you don't already have it.

Perhaps someone could confirm this.

Tilly, these days "app" is also used to mean program, on your laptop.
