To make a recording, just scroll to the program you want and select "record". A surprising number of machines in the shops only have analog receivers. This means no program guide, no extra channels and obsolescent technology.
Re the IDTV, I wouldn't bother. Consider the TV purely as an output device and use the receiver in your settop box to get optimum functionality.
