Possibly not a good idea to laminate it ,but to protect it,you could slip it into a polypocket.

I was going to say the same thing, not sure of the problems you might get if you lamenate it.

You can get copies of your birth certificate but you have to pay and you have to go to the registry office where your birth was registered (a 400 mile round trip when i needed a copy of mine!)

gary baldy, you can get copies of your birth certificate as you quite rightly say but you don't have to go to the Register Office where the birth was registered. You can order them from the GRO in Southport, either online or by post and they cost 7.
sammysnake - I needed mine asap perhaps thats why i made the effort - there must have been a reason (and not to revisit the place of my birth!)
You must have needed it pretty bad for a 400 mile round trip!
It would be worthwhile getting the original laminated for keepsake (if thats what you mean) and sending for a duplicate as you may need to post it away one day, for passport, driving license etc.

You can use the official site, as mentioned by Sammy;

If you need a copy of your birth certificate ring the registry office where you were registered, it's cheaper and quicker than using the national site for certificates. I did this last year for some birth certificates for my family history research and they only cost 7 each and were with me in two days as opposed to when I ordered from the national site, where they cost about 17 each and took a month to arrive!
spudqueen, the national site (i.e the GRO one) also costs 7 and the turnaround at the moment is about 4 days. If you want the express service it costs 23.50.

The official government records site cost 11.00 for a certificate and 7.00 per additional copy of the same certificate.

If you call the office where your birth was registered you can get it for 7 plus 50p postage.

ursula62 - I've just been on the website and it costs 23 to order a copy of my birth certificate!!!!! I stand by what I said and contact the relevant Registry Office!
simple answer - yes you can. The certificate is only a copy of an official record which you can replace (albeit at a cost) if you need to.

Hi Spudqueen - the 23.00 is if you want priority next day delivery. The standard charge (which takes up to 2 weeks to be sent to you) is the 11.00 option and if you want extra copies of the same certificate they are 7.00 each whichever delivery option you chose. Frankly that's an appalling abuse of government when we need these bits of paper to get most things these days.

I just telephoned the register office where my birth was registered and they sent it that day - cost me 7.00 plus 50p for P&P.

you can get one from your local library as well.
