We usually opt for a fixed tariff, we are currently on the price cap.

Is Octopus worth a gamble as the price can change every day

i like octopus, it works for me.  im afraid i cant give you financial advice tho - dont you get interest on your credit balance ATM?

Question Author

I did but the changes in the law re energy companies holding on to customers' overpayments meant they refunded me and scrapped the interest.

There is a reason that Octopus always leads the Which? customer satisfaction surveys for energy suppliers...they are very good to deal with. Whether you choose a variable or fixed tariff is, of course, a bit of a gamble...I'm on my second fixed tariff currently (a one-year). My first was for two years and I saved a huge amount over the price-cap.

They've just reduced my DD by 40% - without prompting from me. Their communication is excellent, too.

I think they are only offering fixes for current customers atm

Ps I had a problem and it was sorted very quickly and efficiently by them with no need to wait forever in a call centre.

I was switched from Shell to Octopus at the start of the year, my bills have been all over the place - short periods, different periods for electric & gas. I'm assured it will be just monthly from now but wait & see.

Compared to Shell the Octopus website is an absolute nightmare - whoever designed it must have been on acid!

I'll keep looking for a decent switch with some savings.

Thanks all.  My OVO DD has just been reduced by nearly 50% this week, without prompting. They're okay to deal with but the fixed aren't attractive

I'm with Octopus on a fixed tarrif.

I pay my bill in full each month.

Having no choice but Eco 7, they aren't that good on price.

Thanks, OldBird.

We have been with EON Next for a long time and find them ok.  They put us on Next Pledge which guarantees to be £50 lower than the price cap.
