Digital Radio

I was thinking of getting one of these radios as I've been told you don't get the interference that a regular radio gets. As they are digital does that mean they will be a few seconds behind the actual broadcast like Sky TV is to terrestrial.

Some of the delay with satellite TV is due to the time taken for the signal to be processed. A similar delay occurs with digital radio.

However, part of the delay with satellite TV is simply because of the time taken for a signal to be transmitted over 26,000 miles from the earth to a satellite and then to be re-transmitted back to earth. Since digital radio uses local, land-based transmitters, these delays don't occur.

The time-lag with digital radio is very small but ( if you have an analogue radio next to a DAB set) still noticeable.

We went out and bought a digital radio . . . only to discover when we got it home that there was only one digital radio channel we could receive in our area. It still works on FM, fortunately, but it is worth checking.
