That heatwave was amazing.  A fantastic time of my life. (1975 summer was good too)

I remember the ladybirds scaring the tourists off Woolacombe beach!  This documentary has been shown before but it's always good

1975 was very, very hot. I remember so well because I was pregnant with my 1st daughter and it wasn't much fun!  The next summer I spent a lot of time trying to keep the child cool.

The records from 1976 have been smashed since.

I remember that stand pipes were put into the roads.  By the time they got to our village, the summer was over.  I remember being told to not have more thn 3 inches of water in the bath.

By the way, re: 'climate change' - check out the weather in 1663.

The Spring & early Summer were so horrible that people were on v. short rations and in mid-August Parliament held a week-long fast in an endeavour to improve the weather. On August 28th (29th?) there was a deep frost - which destroyed the harvest and famine stalked the land.

I'm writing a story about it. Otherwise I wouldn't know.

Global warming?  The planet will do what the planet will do - but we shouldn't pollute it more than we have to.

Highest temperature recorded in 1976 - 35.9 centigrade.

Highest temperature in 2022 - 40.3 centigrade.

Depends where you are though.  Hot in London is hot but I have never been sunburnt here.  Probably because all of the crap in the atmosphere.  Hot in Devon is not hot but you get sunburnt due to no crap in the atmosphere

Loved that summer!!! I was young, free & single.

spent that summer on the rock & roll.

happy days!

I was 6 then. I remember signs in the school loos telling us not to flush 'unless we had to.' But not much else.

The records from 1976 have been smashed since.

and more often.  - Dame Edna was doing comedy - the funniest sauna in town - it was pretty hot even in the evening.

we were doing finals at that time

By the way, re: 'climate change' - check out the weather in 1663.

little fluffy at ITVx clearly didnt know this: The Met Office is known for keeping a record of temperatures across the UK, but it didn't officially accept responsibility for the custodianship of public weather records until April 1914.

some crazy started in 1658 ( longest continuous series) AND they still have his original thermometers - but there is a problem to re-standardisation ( how hot it was) because the glass is brittler. -

The highest temperature reached in 1976 was 35.6C. In July 2022 we got to over 40c
