Can anyone please recommend a reasonably priced and effective dehumidifier?

What do you want it to do, how big an area?

Just to add...two types available. Refrigerant models are better for warmer areas and dessicant models are better for unheated areas (lower than 15C).

barry, it's a medium sized utility room, I usually dry wet clothes in the hotpress and then finish them off in the utility room.

jingejbee, probably up to £300 but less if possible! Just need to know that it is efficient and removes all moisture, also would like to know if it's expensive to run

OK...just looked at Which? 2024 recommendations.

Their cheapest Best Buy is Daewoo COL1587GE (£150)..quieter than most and frugal with energy...as long as it's for use at normal temperatures (ie not cold spaces in Winter). From Currys, Robert Dyas, B&Q and others.

Mine is an MeacoDry Arete® One 10L Dehumidifier / Air Purifier × 1, I paid around £130.

It does what I bought it for very, very well.  It is quiet in normal modes but has a silent mode for when it is used in a bedroom.  It is energy efficient, I monitor my electricity usage daily.  We are very satisfied with it and would buy it again.

It has a laundry mode which we found a bit disappointing but we were trying to dry very wet, very thick towels and blankets.  It is a little noisier in that mode but you wouldn't be able to hear if the utility door is shut.

Personally I wouldn't buy a dehumidifier just for drying off laundry, especially not at the top end price you are prepared to pay.  When our tumble dryer needs replacing we will buy a heat pump dryer which uses considerably less electricity than a standard dryer, although it takes longer.

Forgot to mention it is very easy to use, the bucket is easy to empty but I could have it permanently draining, it is an option.

Yes, another Best Buy...although it's now MeacoDry ABC (12 litre)...about £170.

Meaco products always do well and it's a British company.

We have one of their excellent air conditioners and it's brilliant.

Barry, you said it does what you got it for very well, can I ask your reason for buying it?

We have one very damp room prone to mould and so far nobody has been able to get to the bottom of it.  The dehumidifier has worked wonders
