Do You Still Use Cash?

Apart from paying the gardener, the lady who cleans my house, and taxis, I don't.

I must admit I sometimes miss standing jangling the half crowns in my trousers pockets.

Yes for cleaner, gardener, hairdresser and sometimes to tip especially nice delivery people who bring my groceries in and unpack them for me.

Far less than before, like most people.

We tip our cabin steward, head waiter, and driver on for cruise journeys, we pay our window cleaner, our script printer, and the local takeaway favoured by one of my grandsons in cash,, as all prefer it.

I tip my  chauffeur my head gardener , the cleaning team , home hairdresser , taxi driers whem my chauffeur has a day off.

Do you always ask for a receipt , when you pay by card ?

The only time I use cash these days are for getting my eyebrows done and if I buy a newspaper in a small newsagents.  Couple of weeks ago we had used a small DIY shop thas does not take cards under £5, we just about managed to find £1.99 between us.

Window cleaner puts bill through door and gets paid on line, milkman emails bill then claims on direct debit, local taxi firm takes cards.

Only at the car wash currently. I carry a few notes in my wallet & a change purse in the car.

I don't think that some people understand the dangers of a cashless society!

I pay my window cleaner in cash in the hope that the hard working ex-forces man trousers it without declaring it for tax purposes.I almost always pay tips in restaurants in cash. And I pay my barber in cash because he doesn't take cards. And that's it. I cannot recall the last time I used cash for anything other than that.

Was in TKMAXX a few month ago, 4th from the till, when it was announced that the computers were down and not accepting card payments. Walked straight to the front and paid with cash!

Just dont get how people rely on a piece of plastic...

I use the card mostly but I always make sure I have some bangers and mash in case the card machines stop working as they do seem to do regularly.

Of course I use cash. It allows me to retain a feel of my recent past spending. It is anonymous so my private stuff remains my business. And it helps keep cash in use to avoid situations when the tech goes down and the short sighted folk are beggared.

I can honestly say that in the past 20 years or so the only time I have been unable to use a card was last week - the Spar shop machines weren't working so I had to fork out 90p in coin for my newspaper.

Same for me, OG. I will not be held hostage as to whether or not an ATM can do business with me. When I go to the village shop I try and ensure I can pay the correct amount in cash, otherwise - for their sake - I wil use my card. There is no other local facility for the shop to obtain cash so I am always aware of their ease of payment. I always carry a full purse of change for car parks and have been known to raid it for them in their times of need.

If you load up the shop with oodles of cash they have to bag it up and go find a bank where they can deposit it. Think you're doing them a favour?
