find a net of a shape and make the 3D shape? can someone explain this to me thanks

it's hard to explain without the ability to draw diagrams but imagine a 'self-assembly' cube you just bought from Ikea. it would come flat-packed and would look like six congruent squares, in a 'crucifix' shape. This is the net. Basically a 2D image that could be "folded" to make a 3D shape. The net for a pyramid (square base) would look like a square with four congruent triangles affixed to each of its sides.
A net of a 3D shape is a 2-dimensional blueprint for it.

Imagine you take a cereal box which is a 3D shape, if you carefully unpicked it at the seams and spread it out flat then you have a net a 2-dimensional image which can be folded up into a 3D shape
