One4All Gift Cards

This isn't really a question, more a word of warning. 

I was given a One4All gift card for Christmas last year, and it almost got forgotten about until I was sorting out my wallet. 

Its not a fortune, there is £20 on it, but I thought great theres something I wanted to buy in my local ASDA store.

Not so great news when I got to ASDA as non of the supermarkets accept the One4All gift cards as payment for anything. 

So I rang the contact number on the back of the One4All gift card, and they said the only supermarket that recognised a One4All gift card is Marks & Spencer. But theres nothing I want or need at Marks & Spencer.

 

So word of warning is think before you give someone a One4All gift card, because its not what it says on the card, its very misleading, as its not one card for all at all. 

 

So now I'm more or less forced to use it in shops I don't normally buy things from but put the rest of the money to an item. 

I can't even use it in HMV, which would be my next go to shop. 

 

So in short, One4All gift cards don't cater for ALL shops at all!!

It's easy enough to go online and check where it's accepted. 

I hot one a few years ago and split it between M and S, tkmaxx and argos. J saved on a few things I wanted.

None of those cards are accepted every where...do your homework.

We buy these cards as gifts or recognition at work. It never claims to be usable everywhere but you can use it in a large array of shops and restaurants. 

When people give a gift card as a present, to be fair they don't usually expect it to be spent in a supermarket.

The percentage profit margin that food supermarkets make is too low for them to be able to pay the charges levied by One4All.  So you'll never find any supermarket that accepts their cards.  (M&S is the only exception, which is because their principal operations remain within the fields of fashions, furnishings, etc, rather than food sales).

But supermarkets these days sell pretty much everything from a tub of butter to a music CD. 

 

I went in armed with my All4One gift card expecting to buy a USB to back up some photos from my phone. 

 

These days supermarkets like ASDA is like having 10 shops in one.

 

So I was quite dismayed the so called One4All card wasn't excepted there. 

 

Why call it One4All when it obviously isn't?  In my eyes its false marketing.

We've used the One4All gift card at our golf club for many years as prize vouchers. Our members appreciate them. Their website shows where they are accepted, as Chris has kindly uploaded. They don't suit everyone but we find them very useful.

My argument is why list it as a card One4All, when it clearly isn't. 

 

I assumed it was acting as a credit or debit card that is posing as a gift card that could be used literally anywhere. 

 

Am I wrong to be assuming this?

One4All originates famously from only 4 things

It is a gift card, meant as a treat, and there are hundreds of places you can use it rather than only one, so it seems very ungrateful of you to moan about it not being allowed to be used in your local shop!

 

So why not try to find comething you like in one of the many stores that do take it, and treat yourself to something, as was the intention when it was given.

If ou really dont ant or need anything from the many avilable stores, why  not use it toward a christmas present and save yourself some cash.

Why not buy some meat from m&s and stick it in the freezer, or treat your wife to a couple of bunches of flowers.

Or if it really offends you that much - give it away.

My point is it was a gift so I would prefer to buy something I want rather than what I need. 

Its not about being ungrateful. I'm more annoyed at the misleading title of the card. 

 

To put it this way, the buyer of the card probably thought oh great a card the receiver can use anywhere, what a great idea for a gift. 

 

But in reality I now will end up buying something I don't really want. 

 

Its not a case of being ungrateful to the sender, more a case of being annoyed at the card company for listing their card as something that can be used as a credit card. 

 

And this was more of a heads up message to everyone here, rather than being vocal about my complaint, but it does both naturally. 

 

It was intended to be advise not to buy these cards.

It can't be advise not to buy these cards ...they are not a scam, in spite of you discovering they can't be used everywhere. 

I'd guess most people will find them useful...and will be appreciative.

Renegadefm, I think most people - on AB and in the world - would find your 'warning' unnecessary. Many, many people have bought and been given these cards and have been delighted with them. I don't think there are many people who would feel that the 'one card for all' was to be taken literally, nor would they feel they were 'more or less forced to use it in shops they don't normally buy things from'. Having  had a quick look at the retailers involved in the scheme, I think the majority of people would feel there was a borad enough range.

i doubt it. Surely no-one else in the world would be as thick as to think you could use it in every single shop?

there are plenty of shops on that list from which you could buy a usb stick
