I know they are Scottish, my brother says Loval Scouts but can anyone confirm this?  Postmarked 1916.

Wolf, on FB there is a group dedicated to identifying regiments from old pictures. I'll see if I can find the name.

Hi, Check out the uniform detail of this pic of a Nigel Miller who served wit hthe Canadian Expeditionary Force till 19616 and compare to the image you have posted. Unfortunately, I can see any lear insignia details.

NIGEL R. MILLER

Sorry, should read-

'who served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force till 1916'

'I can't see any clear insignia details'

Apologies.

Pegasus, I don't think he is from the same regiment. If you look at those tags hanging from his belt, they 4 stripes. In the photo supplied by wolf, they have 3 stripes.

Hello,  101ClarionSt, I initially thought that but if you enlarge the pic (in a new tab) it appears Private Millers uniform also has 3 stripes. Could just be my eyes though!

Yes, you are correct. I've Googled Scottish badges and I can't see one that has the same features as the guy who's on one knee. It's oval shaped with a vertical centrepiece but I can't find one with that format.

His cap badge.

Ah yes, and the cap badge of the soldier on his knee is rather big which is or seems common with Scottish regiments, shame we can't see the cap badge of Pte Millers image.

Thanks to all of you.

It is a postcard that has been donated to Oxfam.  I will look at your answers further once I get home.

There were some lovely postcards donated from the same time period.

You could try the Imperial War Museum.

Hi Wolf, will continue to search when I get more time but just found another image with similar uniform, cap badges and shoulder epaulettes to the postcard image you posted.

The capbadges on the first BBC image looks similar to the capbadge of the soldier front right of the postcard and the fairly visible shoulder epaulettes on the BBc image appears somewhat similar to what can be made out on the postcard. See what you think.
