Can they not be arrested for aiding and abetting the crime of illegal entry into their neighbour's territory ?

Arrested by whom, OG? If they are doing as their government tells them to, the French police won't be feeling any collars anytime soon.

French Plod are probebly helping to load the dinghys.

They are surely going to HAVE to do something effective (& possibly distasteful) - like physically stopping the crossings - eventually. So why delay it?

“They are surely going to HAVE to do something effective (& possibly distasteful) - like physically stopping the crossings - eventually.”

There is nothing “distasteful” about it. I have been counselling that strategy since the “small boat” scandal began, dave. It is the only – the one and only – way to put a stop to it. Nothing else will do so. What certainly is distasteful is for the government to expect taxpayers to meet an ever increasing and seemingly endless bill to cater for these people.

Successive governments have wrung their hands, wailing that it cannot be done (which it can), or that it breaks international law or treaties (I’d say I doesn’t, but if it does, tough; a country is entitled to protect itself from invasion).

I think eventually some serious civil unrest will break out in this country. The financial cost of this fiasco is already phenomenal – particularly at a time when funds for vital public services are being reduced -  and the cost to social cohesion is enormous.

Nobody needs to come here from northern France to claim asylum and no claims should be entertained. But to avoid challenges to that decision (if it was ever taken) the only solution is the one above.

BA right there IMHO NJ, couldnt agree more.

I meant distasteful to those having to order or carry out the action - certainly wouldn't be distasteful to me!

Ah - sorry dave. Me neither!

reminds me of moby dick, thar she blows.. but with modern sophisticated tools..
