This is my hot water question. A CH usage question is on my second post. Flat, duplex 2nd and 3rd floors at the top of my block. Boiler: Potterton Combi about 6/8 yrs old. Very badly neglected til I came. After lots of new parts it is A1 and I am on an annual insurance scheme. In the summer a replacement converter valve was fitted. The engineer said they were temperamental. Even now occasionally the hot water coming through to the 2nd floor kitchen takes an age, as though the new-ish converter valve is not triggering. As I am on metered water I get concerned when this happens.

Am I expecting too much, given the layout of the flat?

flaming, It sounds as though this was not the ideal situation to have a Combi system installed. The "diverter valve" is very much dependant on water pressure to open it up and send hot water to your outlets. There is a possibility that the water pressure on the 2nd. floor is not adequate to open the valve ( especially if water is being drawn from another scource in the building, or from the water service pipe ). Have your engineer check the water pressure / flow rate on the second floor.

Thanks pilotlight. I forgot to mention that Thames Water have been renewing mains round here for the past few months. It might be better now. The water pressure is amazingly good. I'll keep an eye on things in the coming months in case the upset in water pressure over this time had something to do with it. There is no alternative to the Combi I think in this situation. I will probably call the engineer (insurance one)but I am aware that I can't keep calling them for nothing.
