Electric Key Meters

Recently moved into a new place, which has a Key meter in just the weekend it used �11. My mum has a 4 bed house (bearing in mind she does not have heating via electric) and her bill is around �60 a month therefore my tiny one bed cottage should including heating be around the same. The bill should work out at 2.50ish, a day not 5.50.

I have been sitting in the cold and dark to try and reduce it but it does not seem to make much difference Please can someone help??????

definitely one for your power supplier as something is obviously not right.you could also switch back to a normal meter should you prefer

The key meter may have been set by the electricity company to a higher tariff in order to recover debts owed by the previous occupant of the house to the supplier. Have the meter checked by the electricity company or have it replaced with the standard type. (there will probably be a cost for this though)

I have a pre-payment electric meter and ours isnt to bad, i think xray is right it is probably set to recover the debt the previous occupant was owing. get in touch asap with the power supplier and ask them to check the meter, there would be a charge for replacing the meter with a standard one, i rang to have mine replaced a few months ago and they said it was going to be about �100 all in. i think it depends on the circumstances with your present meter, if they find its faulty they might be willing to waiv the cost of a new one.
