My daughter had analogue cable Tv and changed it for digital tv and broadband from NTL last year. She has only just realised that NTL have taken direct debits for both services each month-different account numbers and payment days.
Is there anything she can do? Obvioulsy she will be pressing for a return of her money but is there anything else she can claim-or failing that someone to complain to.

We signed up for ntl a few years ago. The rep said they would take 26 for the deposit by direct debit. They took 52 and when I rang them they said that it was correct as he hadn't charged us for the box, so they did! We had nothing but trouble with them and went back to BT and Sky a year later.

i dont pay DD for NTL.

If they complain that broadband is only direct debit only then why have i had the cost added to my phone bill every month for 3 years!

She is clearly entitled to a refund of the overpaid money and should do whatever is necessary chasing NTL to get it. She may have to be very persistent and complain to senior management. Make sure she keeps a copy of all letters and sends them by Recorded Delivery; also keep a note of the date, time and name of anyone in NTL she talks to on the phone about it.

She should also check with her bank whether there are two direct debits. If there are, cancel the one relating to the old analogue contract.

There is a thing called a "Direct Debit Guarantee" which is supposed to help in cases like this. She should ask the bank about it and how to claim under it.

If the direct debits were being paid by credit card, she needs to contact her card issuer as she may be able to claim under section 75 of the consumer credit act. Failing this, I'm sure Trading Standards would like to hear about it.

I recently signed up for NTL broadband and have also just noticed that NTL have added an extra charge to my existing direct debit for TV/phone as well as charging for my Broadband through a new direct debit. Just emailed them a complaint, awaiting a response...
