i always go for the easy option. firstly ide change the sparkplugs and distributor cap.. maybe even the plug leads. sounds like you could have an electrical problem.
starting problems are, in my opipion, usualy associated with the simple things listed above...
another alternative could be fuel supply.

Good ideas from the previous poster. As said could be electrical or fuel related. Deffinately worth changing plugs, ht leads and distributor cap. These things are fairly cheap and easy to do (have you got a Haynes manual?). Could also be an airleak somewhere around the inlet. This can cause a drop in revs. I might be inclined to change the airfilter as well and have a quick visual inspection of the fuel supply pipes and vacum pipes. A little trick you can try is to spray WD40 around the inlet when the car is idling. If you hear a change in revs it indicates an air leak. These things are worth trying before you shell out lots of money at a garage.
