What height above sea level is the town of Maesteg,CF34 9ET.

432 feet. That's according to Google Earth and based on the spot designated there as the town centre rather than the specific post-code you give. Of course, there will be different heights throughout the town, but between 400 and 500 feet will probably cover them all.

Thanks Quizmonster, out of curiosity just how accurate are Google Earth statistics.

I can't guarantee its accuracy, obviously, Mistermouse, but - as the whole thing is based on satellite readings (much like the pretty accurate Global Positioning System is) - I'd say it would be correct.
For a weather-station device we have at home, I had to enter our height above sea-level. Considering the lie of the land between the harbour and our home, I calculated that we were roughly 12 yards - 36 feet - above. Guess what Google Earth says it is...38 feet! (Of course, my accuracy comes into question then, doesn't it? However, I'd be tempted to trust the satellite.)

Google Earth places the town centre at Plasnewydd Primary School and indicates an elevation of 131m (429.8 ft). This elevation is consistent (within 1m) of that indicated by the Ordnance Survey Explorer map for the town.

I just had a look at the appropriate Ordnance Survey map for Maesteg and the 400+ feet I suggested seems to be pretty accurate. The contour-line at the eastern edge of the town, just below Garth Hill, is the 130 metre line...ie about 422 feet.
