Conflicting Firewalls stopping Outlook Express

Hi Everyone :o)

My Norton subscription has run out and I am with NTL so decided to download NTL Netguard, a free antivirus available to NTL customers. I changed my firewall thru the control panel and security centre to Windows Firewall. All works fine except when I switch Norton off or just turn off the Norton Firewall, my Outlook Express wont work, it just says Connecting but never does and times out. Now I know it is to do with the Firewall blocking the server getting thru or something to that effect and I have deleted Temp Files on Internet explorer as it says on Microsoft website to do.
If I want to get rid of Norton completely how do I manage it so that Outlook express will work with a different firewall working?

Hope that all makes sense! I am running WinXP.

Why not just leave Norton running then.....It will still work even if your subscription has run out....just means you won't get new definitions. I will still be doing some good surely...........commoner

Yeah I know what your saying, it's just I would like to be able to leave the NTL Netguard running all the time, without having to keep switching it all off just to download virus updates and do a scan.

I think it's probably what I will end up doing though.

but why use either? Zonealarm is a great product and the bonus of being free.

Uninstall all the other firewalls and use this. I've found that norton can do some very strange things and have since never been a fan...
