The main switch at the side is left on for the duration of time you want the heaters to work say Oct to March
The input control is a thermostat so if it was very cold you would put that on max or the highest number, the boost control ideally should be turned down to the lowest number otherwise all of the heat will escape during the day when you are out,if left on the lowest number during the day you can then turn it up to a higher number in the evening letting out some of the stored heat, but turn it back down before going to bed ,unless your house is really well insulated the storage heaters are only any good as a background heat, so give it a go but not everybody likes them but they do run on off peak electric so they don't cost a fortune to have them on for that couple of months a year
good luck ray
