Junk mail code
6 Answers
Why does every piece of junk mail I receive have the same numerical code under and to the right of the address? It seems to be there on everything - whoever it is sent from.

Also,
thanks for all your replies! I'd sussed out that it was to do with mailing lists but its always the same number and I can't believe that everything we get is from the same mailing list. My daughter gets mail and its the same number on her letters as well............thanks for the mail preference site address.........I know its sad but I don't actually object to junk mail particularly - and we recycle all the paper! The telephone preference service is absolutely excellent - never had one call after about a month of registering so we can have our tea in peace every night!! Would highly recommend it.
I think that you will find it is the mailsort code
It is like the post code but better (depending on your viewpoint). You should see that even your bank uses the same number. This once had me thinking that the bank was in league with the junksters.
Have a read at www.sterlingdata.com/uk.htm under the item about mailsort and postcode.
