I would like to go camping wild in the UK and camp overnight with a small fire, is it legal and where?

The general consensus seemed to be that in the UK you can't do this, as we're not as responsible as in the US where it's common practice on campsites. However I don't know how you'd stand doing it in the wild... I'd just go for it...
As much as I recall, You can camp 'wild' in Scotland by right of abode AND you can take sufficient crops for a meal from fields, without asking, [legally] but I wish someone else could back this up (or not). Also I think you can camp wild [with controlled fire] on 'common land' in England/Wales but again, not sure. In any case, I once spent 6 months this way and never was harassed by cops. I think you got to be discrete, even with your fire. Why advertizse? ...MXmas
