old ten pound note

I have just found an old ten pound note and was wondering if it is possible to change it at the bank. the date on the note is 1992 so am not too sure.

any help would be much appreciated

It should be possible to change it at a bank - some might be a bit iffy about it though. I am pretty sure they have to accept it if you pay in into your account.

At worst you'll have to take it to the bank of England!

Some banks may take it. failing that the bank of England will change any note they ever issued.

Keep it. It will become a collectors item and may, in time, be worth more than it's face value.

When I worked in a bank (a while ago now) we would change old notes for face value. Once had someone in with a load of very old notes and even though we advised them to take them to a dealer they weren't interested and just wanted the face value. If someone came in with a load of old 50's/60's notes we were supposed to check them against a list of notes stolen in the great train robbery!

IF you have an option to pay in at a ATM (cash-point or cash-machine, hole-in-the-wall) then pay it into your account that way. I always do this if I need to pay anything in that may cause concern at the counter.

Legally, a high street bank is not obliged to take any 'out-of-date' tender. So, If you have missed the deadline for the old notes to be handed in, you can't expect your local Nat West/Barclays etc to take them.

In practice, though, most will take recently out of date notes (which yours eeems to be) and credit your account (they only usually do this if you bank with them) or swop it for a modern one.

If they refuse, you can take it to the Bank Of England (as dzug and Loosehead said) and they are bound 'to pay the bearer the sum of ...)
