is a current election card polling card proof of ID (ie for opening bank account, applying for loans/mortgage)

As rojash has quite rightly said, no, they won't be accepted as proof of ID.


All it proves is that you have registered as eligible to vote at that address. When the electoral forms come round each year, you can fill in any name you like and will receive polling cards.

Am I the only one who thought this question was a bit suss?

It's not even a valid id in a polling station (in England anyway).


If you live in Northern Ireland things may be different - but I don't know how things work there other than the old joke 'vote early vote often'.
