Depends on the boiler. Whats intriguing me lately, is that I read somewhere that electric combi boilers are now no more expensive than gas. Does anyone know if that's true because as well as them apparently being quieter and without need for venting and CO emissions etc, I can't see gas ever getting cheaper since there is no way it can be renewed, whereas eventually we'll crack renewable electricity and the gap between the two fuels will surely then start to increase in electrics favour.
This is a how long is a piece of string question. It depends on the above, but also how good the insulation is in your property, how big your house is, what fuel it uses (oil, gas or electric) and whether it is a condensing boiler or normal (all new installations now have to do condensing type). What are you trying to compare the cost against?
generally, the electric boilers are more efficient than gas or oil boilers, but it depends on the brand, the out put (in BTU's) and the size of the room or property that you are running it in.
