Recycling broken glass

I've broken a glass. It's in two neat pieces because it broke because of the hot water I think.

I would usually wrap it in newspaper or something like that, and then stick it in the black refuse bag. I presume it would then end up as landfill somewhere.

How could I recycle it instead? My council recycles glass bottles, but I presume they wouldn't be too happy if I sneaked a shard or two of broken glass into the container.

I can't see why the council would object - the bottles are quite often broken when they are dropped into whatever container they use.
Bottle Bank.

Not sure if you've used one before, but after dropping them into the steel container, they for sure aren't whole anymore.
ditto
Our council are fine about it so long as its not toughened glass or pyrex etc.
More or less the only criterion is colour sorting. When the bins are emptied they are tipped into a truck which in turn tips its load at the collection centre. By this time it is quite impossible to tell what shape it initially came in - and that is immaterial anyway because it is all re-melted into a single mass for.....recycling/re-use. But always deposit pure glass, no wrapping, tops, corks, etc.
Mr Spudqueen once dropped the recyling bin full of glass bottles whilst taking it out for the collection and we got a big note on it saying NO BROKEN GLASS. Maybe different if you put it in a bottle bank yourself.

Thanks for your answers guys.

I think it's a shame that all the bottles get broken. I'd rather use them again.

I don't know where my nearest bottle bank is, but I think I'll find out. I don't want anyone getting cut.
