Related colour copier , what does it mean by Halftone gradation 256 ? what does '256' signify ?

Is it the number of colors it will scan or perhaps it is turning the color image into a 256 tone greyscale image (high quality black and white)?

256 signifies the number of colours it can produce. halftone gradiation shows that it skips between the tones half a step each time. for example to simplify if it was halftone gradation 6 it would have the three primary colours red blue and yellow and the three intermediate colours purple green and orange inbetween.
