Stars on shopping lists

Does anyone know why certain items have a star next to them on my shopping lists? I cant see any particular relationship - not for own brands, or for liquids. Some examples are: Washing Up Liquid, Hair Styling Cream, Toilet Tissues, Chocolate Hobnobs, OJ. Please help, this has been puzzling me for ages!!!

It would help if you told us what shopping list they are on. Is it one from a particular website?

Would it mean special offer, or buy one get one free? I did a large Safeways shop this afternoon, but unfortuneately I can't find the till receipt.

The lists are from any supermarket. Those examples are from Tesco and Sainsburys. And sorry Cetti, but special offer isnt the link!!

The star denotes that you have paid VAT on that item. In the UK you do not pay VAT on "essential" items such as bread, milk, butter etc but you do pay on non-essesntials; choccy biccies, l;oo roll, deodorant etc.

Bog roll ain't an essential? Ho hum.....and do you know that all the lucky small people with size 5 or smaller feet don't have to pay VAT on their shoes (unless it's an adult design) as these are classed as kids sizes.
