Camcorders on planes

Can anyone tell me whether you're allowed to use camcorders during a flight?And if not...why?

Can't answer your question exactly, but I was once videoing the plane from the window of the departure lounge and was asked to stop as the plane's hold doors were open (while they loaded the luggage) and they couldn't let me video that.

I''ve never understood why, maybe someone can help?

The last time I was on a flight, you could use it during the flight but not during take-off or landing for some reason but not sure why, sorry!!

I wasn't allowed to use my iPod either for the same reasons!

AFAIK it's something to do with the digital camcorders and iPODs and MP3players, etc. affecting the flight deck instruments but there's a guy on here that's a pilot so he might be able to tell you more.

I used mine during take off but didn't realise you weren't allowed to. Oops!

It's nothing to do with the signals affecting the instrumentation. This is the reason given for not being able to use your mobile phone at all (even though the signals don't really interfere, but they're just making sure I guess).

Camcorders, iPods, cameras, etc. should all be usable on a plane flight. However, they're usually not allowed during take-off and landing because the flight crew want you to be concentration during these times, incase something happens. Also during the safety bit at the start of the flight too where they tell you the emergency exits.

As for not being able to film the luggage being loaded onto the plane, well that's probably down to some daft security concern.

No-one ever pays any attention to the safety videos anyway on most of the flights I'm on anyway!
