Bathroom scales - accuracy
4 Answers
Is there such a thing as an accurate pair of bathroon scales ? If so, which manufacturer ? I think the mechanical leverage on the scale mechanism is huge which must make it very difficult to be make them relaibly accurate..

Digital scales usually use strain gauges to measure weight and are frequently accurate to within 100g, whereas analogue types generally rely on springs and rapidly go out of calibration. Expect to pay between 25 and 50 for the digitals, depending on make, styling, etc. My wife tells the story of how I gave her a set of digital scales for her birthday, not to suggest she needed to lose weight but to overcome the justified complaint (including from visitors) that the previous analogue scales were inconsistent. The new scales have had to receive new batteries but they are phenomenally reliable otherwise.
Royal Mail used to run an advertising campaign based on the catchphrase: I saw this and thought of you. I hope it is not to late to tell you (I just found out today) but the Lidl chain of stores is going to have digital scales on offer on 27th March, at 13. I have never known their goods to disappoint although they have some amazingly cheap offers at times but the quality is in my experience easily as good as from much more expensive sources. Popular offers have sold out within minutes in the past and they do not get more in for months, perhaps never, so be at you nearest shop when they open if you can - unless you are not interested.
