changing house deeds

my father has died and my parents house deeds have to be changed as it will be in my name and my mothers name jointly. do i need a solicitor to change the name through land registry or can i apply direct

There should be no need to employ a solicitor. Things might be simplified if your father left a will (and this has now been 'proved') but even without a will, it should still be possible to deal with the matter yourself.

Your first step should be to ascertain the contact details for the relevant office of the Land Registry. You can do that from the list here:

(Note that, if you live outside of a metropolitan area, you should look for the name of your district council, not the county council).

The Land Registry staff will be able to offer you guidance on their procedures.

thanks for that. my father did leave a will i have a copy. can i still do that without using a solicitor

Yes - but it will be the executor(s) of the will who need to sign on behalf of your late father.
