This hasn't got a category so I'm posting it here, if AB want to move it they can.... Anyway.......
Would it be possible to scan in the "bulk mail" postage from say, the gas bill, and print it on envelopes you want to post and get all your postage charged to British Gas??
Here's one to look at, it doesn't have the full details on it but I'm sure you all have an envelope with an account number on it...
no, because these aren't merely a black and white logo for envelopes, the black areas contain information that is scanned in their machines.
a bit like the ones with two thick black lines fo r business replies.
if you hold an ordinary postage stamp up to the light and look closely you will see 4-5 rough lines across it - these are to show the machine that these are genuine stamps - not just scans from home computers - if it was that easy everyone would be doing it.
We have a PPI (a postage paid impression) and when we do the mailings we have to take the postal docket with us, where they stamp the book to say they accept the PPI and how many, they then charge this onto us. They are not posted in the post box , they have to be take to the PO, so I doubt a letter with a PPI on it would be accepted by the Royal Mail if mailed nromally.
Well maybe not scanning it - but what about just putting a sticker over the address of a pre-paid envelope and using it for your own letters? What a great way to egt your own back on all those companies who send you junk mail.
