Sky plus question

I have ordered a Sky plus box for installation on Tuesday -and purely out of interest (I don't have a DVD recorder)

What format does Sky plus record in ?

ie) Can I link in to the file on the HDD (via a cable ?) and burn DVD's on my PC ?
