Are the chances of landing on a full moon greater than landing on a half moon, as there is a greater surface area ?

That's terrible - if you have a moon shot when there is a new moon, then it might miss the Man in the moon's nose completely
and fly off into space or something !

The area of a sphere is approximately 1.3 times the area of a hemisphere ...

Taking into account the moon isn't spherical ... I doubt there's a great advantage in landing on a full moon, compared to half of one

im sorry to say tats a silly question, im sure i learned about this when i was 11, its still a moon, but because of the phases you can only see more or less of it if its waxing or waning. there will not be a greater surface area

Didnt you hear about Apollo 18? It tried to land on a cresent moon but missed and had to come back.

This was of course a key logistical issue in the NASA Apollo moon missions. If you landed too close to the edge of a half-moon, you might only have a few hours before the moon simply disappeared from underneath you, leaving you floating in space with no hope of rescue.
