No. For me, they rank alongside the 'zoom zoom' car advert, and people who don't seem to know that 'excuse me' means you want them to move out of your way.
I agree they just don't work!!
If they scrapped the 1p's and 2p's they would be able to mint a decent sized 5p. OR why not make the 10p smaller and use metal from that? and 20p should be bigger too. - they could reduce 50p size for that, it's Huge. :-)
Especially irritating is the rounded edges of the damn things! You tried picking one up off a glass surface or shiny flat floor? Considering how long coins have been around I am amazed that the ergonomics are so bad for people without extending fingernails. Square edged coins give you a purchase for leverage but these things - sheesh!
