just bought one, my hair isnt dead straight so i thought the diffuser would do the job but i still cant get it to make waves in my hair! just makes it go like when monica on friends went on holiday! any tips on making waves?

You need to take big hadfuls of hair and sort of scrunch it up, then put the diffuser really close ands sort of wiggle it a bit. Sorry, that's a cr*p description, but the best I can do!
Try getting a curler instead, or a straightener with lots of attachments. There's one which is basically a tong, and if you clump lengths of hair in that and dry it (a bit like if you were crimping it, but with larger sections of hair), should make it wavy.
Do you add product to your hair before drying it? My hair is curly and I use the Umberto Gianni curl friends stuff through my hair first (or a blob of curly hair mousse and a drop of serum would work too)

Also make sure you use a low heat and speed setting as too hot will create frizz!
