I, like your husband, have tested it and found no power (ac or dc) getting to the inlet valve. The valve does not seem interchageable with others. I am guessing it must be the main control unit not powering it. I don't want to go buying a replacement (which I am sure wouldnt be the cheapest part for a washer) until I am sure. Hi Pagey will my husband has got the dishwasher working again. There was water in the bottom of the machine. He got all the water out and the float went back up, now the machine is working again. Must find out where it was leaking from though. Hope this helps your husband to fix yours. Kind regards Brenda xx
You do need salt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a huge mistake made by lots, if not all d/washer owners ... You MUST put salt in the reservoir ... if you are in a soft water area it just means that the dial / quantitiy adjuster can be set low ... the fact that tablets contain salt has NOTHING to do with whether you need salt in the chamber ... trust me on this !! ... I could give you a long winded explanation but the salt water in the machine does not enter it during the wash process ... it is there to regenerate the chamber at the end of the cycle only ... the salt in a tablet softens the water DURING the cycle to allow surfactants to work sufficiently well ... PHEW (that was the easy explanation !!)

I have the same problem with my indesit dishwasher its an ID535, i have removed the bottom to find the float switch but cannot find the cause of the leak, i will check foe over sudsing as suggested and maybe even add some salt now ! , i had the idea that the tablets had the salt rather than need it in the tank, This is a nearly new dishwasher and the instructions did not state the need for salt in the reservoir , there was plenty of Finish advertising with the dishwasher and lots of mentions of there being salt in the the tabs
thanks for the advice i have read , i will update this after a few test runs of my dishwasher

This is apparently quite common with Indesit dishwashers and is caused by over-sudsing. When the machine over-suds a float switch comes on to pump out the water and suds on the bottom plate of the machine. The switch should go off after the excess water has been pumped out but it either sticks on or (in my case) fails in the "on" position. The result is that the machine will only pump out wherever the timer switch is moved to. The solution is to switch off the power to the machine, remove the cover below the door (2 screws), remove the left-hand black plastic cover inside (pulls off), find the float switch (has white polystyrene float attached to it) and click the switch on and off a few times to free it up. Try the machine again. If it still only pumps out then the switch has probably failed and should be replaced (only a few pounds). To stop over-sudsing, do not use those 4-in-one or 5-in-one blocks; go back to using powder.
